The fox so famous, he has been in a movie and has his own pub crawl! Along with Maksa and Mikhail, he was one of the first 3 foxes to join our center. Viktor can regularly be seen out at our community events.

Maksa

One of our original 3 foxes, Maksa can also be seen regularly at our events alongside Viktor. This girl is confident, kind, wildly clever, and strikingly beautiful—the complete package! Sparkling water with blueberries is the secret to this girl’s heart. Come meet her at one of our events!

Mikhail

About 2 weeks prior to importing Viktor and Maksa, we were contacted and asked if we would be willing to also welcome sweet Mikhail into our pack. A quiet and gentle soul, Mikhail prefers to use his ninja-like stealth to hide in the background, allowing Viktor and Maksa to share the spotlight.

Of all our foxes, Mikhail is the kindest and most welcoming toward other foxes. He is like the uncle that all the kids jump on and play with. Patient and tolerant, he helps heal and soothe our new rescues when they deal with adjusting to their new forever home with us.

Panda

In the middle of 2020, we were informed by a researcher we work with that she had fallen in love with a tiny kit fox at the ICG. This started the “Panda and Her Pals” project, because beyond the usual hurdles of permits, transport, and customs, JABCECC faced the new challenge of COVID travel restrictions. After a great deal of work and struggle, by Thanksgiving 2020 we had brought home not only Panda, but eight of her friends, who we collectively call the “Novosibirsk 9”.

Lena

Our dear Lena, with her sparking personality and good looks, is a rockstar at many JABCECC events! This calm, confident girl loves posing for the camera, meeting people at events, and telling you exactly where to pet her. She is indeed a clever fox, and possibly the smartest of the bunch. She lives life to the fullest and enjoys a good, long, undisturbed sleep after. She’s kind to the other foxes and loves meeting her adoring fans, making her JABCECC’s “it girl”!

Sergei

Sergei is Lena’s brother. He shares her stunning good looks, but he comes to the party with a “bad boy” attitude all his own. He enjoys getting into trouble with Vlad as well as giving our full-time on-site manager, Melissa, a hard time. But deep down, Sergei is just playful and demands attention.

Vasily

• Russian domesticated fox

Seen here laughing at his own joke, we often refer to this cheerful fellow as our “Silly Vasily!” Like many of our Russian domesticated foxes, Vasily enjoys training (by “training”, we mean “sitting there looking drop dead gorgeous while getting loved on”) and loves a good scratch on his rump. Vasily is Sasha’s littermate and they both share the same love for human attention. This handsome gentleman is a favorite among JABCECC volunteers.

Sasha

Sasha is part of the “Sweet Girls” (Lena, Sasha and Laika). She is Vasily’s littermate and shares his stunning good looks. She can always be found wagging her tail when anyone comes into her enclosure, even when she is sound asleep and can’t be bothered to get up. She is often compared to a golden retriever because she cannot get enough love and attention from everyone. She is a cuddler and enjoys grooming her fellow foxes, like Yuri!

Laika

Laika is part of the “Sweet Girls” (Lena, Laika, and Sasha). She is a littermate of Dima and can be distinguished from him by the little bit of white on her front paw vs Dima’s full white sock. She is small but mighty and the most vocal of all the foxes. This girl has something to say about everything! She is the most likely to jump on your back & head and is also known for her deep love of Yuri.

Dima

Dima is Laika’s littermate and is almost a mirror image of her in looks and personality. He is one of the loudest of the male foxes and the hardest worker in training sessions. He excels in nosework with a drive that would make a Belgian Malinois jealous. This boy is serious and his trainer, Anita, usually has to stop him from working so hard to spend some time loving on him.

Yuri

• Russian domesticated fox

• Born: Spring 2020 at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, Russia

• Coloration: Platinum

Weighing in around 17.5 pounds, Yuri is one of our largest red foxes. This “quiet giant” is well-loved by the other foxes. Like the rest of the Novosibirsk 9, he is a Russian domesticated fox, with his coat in the stunning platinum color morph. He is often featured on Friday’s Chat w/ Vlad for his love of Bear Claws. But don’t let that size fool you: He is still a cunning fox and is known to nab phones or hats without you noticing!

Vlad

• Russian domesticated fox

• Born: Spring 2020 at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, Russia

  Vlad is a prolific writer… he is known for hosting a “Friday Chat with Vlad” on social media every week! (Look for it on Instagram and Facebook!)

  He was named after Vlad the Impaler. Vladdy is our bad boy and the team learned a hard lesson: Watch what you name a fox, because he may live up to his name.
  He is usually at the root of all trouble: between pulling Sergei’s tail when he is asleep and pouncing on the girls, he is always chasing or being chased. His gorgeous color allows him to get away with way too much!

Ishy (“Squishy Ishy”)

• Coloration: Marble

The girl with the best eyeliner ever! Ishy was bottle fed and well-socialized with humans from a very young age. She was also raised by two Russian domesticated foxes. For a US-bred tame fox, she is amazing, so she sometimes does private encounters… however, because she is not domesticated, she’s not as interested in people as she is in her favorite snack: Cucumbers! We do not allow guests to physically interact with Ishy, for her comfort and your safety.

Vinnie

In 2020, JABCECC was approached by a fur farmer who was willing to give 30 of his farm foxes to a rescue (rather than culling them). We found placement for 29 of those foxes and decided to keep little Vinnie at our facility.

Due to the stress and conditions of growing up in the fur farm environment, Vinnie has only 1 ear and no tail. Sadly, this is not uncommon for fur farm foxes, which is why our mission of educating people about the fur trade is so important!

Because of her background, we avoid putting Vinnie in the stress of encounters with guests. Instead, this adorable lady gets to live out her days in a comfortable forever home with us.

Liberty Belle (“Libby”)

Our popular little Libby Belle is a rescue from a captive breeding situation in another state. Another sanctuary rescued her litter and asked us to provide her with a forever home.

Libby is a very tiny girl, and she’s best friends with Ishy and Boris. She’s a spicy girl, going from loving to fighting in a millisecond!

* We believe Libby truly has the cross fox coloration because her parents were a silver fox and a red fox.

Shasta

Part of the Wonder 4, Shasta came to us a bit shy at first, but she is warming up to become the sweetheart of the bunch. She enjoys hanging out with Ari, another one of the Wonder 4, who all came to us from another educational facility in Utah. Shasta is the most active of the Wonder 4 and can be seen jumping on the houses in the enclosures.

Moxi

Part of the Wonder 4, Moxi is an independent woman who prefers not to have a roommate in her enclosure because she needs her space, and she can often be heard fussing at her neighbors, Ari and Nic. She lives up to her name and is not afraid to speak her mind!

Ari

Sweet Ari is one of the Wonder 4 and is quite the little love bug. She looks like Moxi and they’re both quite chatty, so it’s possible that they’re related! Ari and Moxi have some strong feelings and are not afraid to speak their minds.

Nic (“Fabio”)

The lone male among the ladies of the Wonder 4, Nic took a while to get comfortable with us. We quickly gave him the nickname “Fabio” because of his big fluffy fur and dashing good looks! As their first winter with us is approaching, Nic and Moxi have had strong appetites. We think they’re bulking up for winter, but soon they’ll figure out that winters in San Diego aren’t quite as harsh as winters in Salt Lake.

Clara

Clara was named after Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. She was rescued as a baby in August 2023 by Mikayla from Save a Fox Rescue, along with Mae, with some help from Cooper Graham, who drove her safely to us. With her White Mark coloration, we think she looks just like a Border Collie! Clara is quite shy, which is not unusual for a fur farm rescue, but she has begun to show that she trusts us.

Mae

With sass, spice, and everything nice, our little Mae is named after the famous vaudeville star, Mae West. Her coloration, a snow glow, was created by fur farmers. Mikayla at Save a Fox Rescue rescued her and brought her to us because of her tail deformity. This little leading lady is spunky, confident, and knows how to use her sharp baby teeth! She’s best friends with Clara, whose sweetness will hopefully tame down some of Mae’s spicy tendencies.
